08 January 2022 - Glen Austin Pan
Following our return from the relaxing December vacation, I had a quick afternoon visit to Glen Austin Pan to check if the Bullfrog's had emerged after some good summer rains and of course to check the level of the pan and birds.
I had seen African Jacana previously, but this was the first time for a photo opportunity.

The level was quite high which for some reason reduces the number and variety of waterfowl, although a few Cape Shoveler were present

There were also two Whiskered Tern's which is always a pleasure to see

In the surrounding grasslands, a Cape Longclaw called from the top of a small shrub

The numbers of Pioneer Caper Whites (previously Brown-veined White) are starting to increase

and since Kuwait, this was the first time I have found a Crimson-speckled Flunkey or Footman in my home country

As there was not much else, back home for dinner with the family
