11 February 2023 - Glen Austin Pan
I had a short visit to the Pan on an overcast day to see if I locate the Lesser Moorhen that had been previously reported following the good rains.
No sight nor sound of the Moorhen, but I did enjoy this slow 'tightrope' walking African Swamphen on the reserve fence
African Swamphen (Porphyrio madagascariensis)
I was fortunate to find a few obliging White-backed Ducks tucked into the reeds near the fence. They are pretty cryptic and can quite easily be missed, but are one of my favourite duck species
White-backed Duck (Thalassornis leuconotus)
No so cool, was finding a single female Mallard on the Pan - a camera was not my first choice for 'shooting' her.....
Female Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos)
